December 2026 will see team Remiges Quinque (V) set off and attempt to win the World’s Toughest Row - one of the hardest endurance events on the planet, in the name of adventure, camaraderie and charity.
The race starts in La Gomera, Canary Islands and will see the teams row in excess of 3,000 miles from east to west across the Atlantic, finally arriving in the Caribbean Island of Antigua.
The team will alternate 2 hours rowing and 2 hours rest (including sleep!) for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for a length of nearly 6 weeks!
Battling waves up to 20 feet and beyond, as well as the unpredictable and life threatening weather, the voyage is a completely unsupported attempt at joining a club with very few members!
Each team member will be required to take on 5000 - 8000 calories of food and snack packs suitable for the journey and 10 litres of water per day which will be produced by the team themselves on board via their specialist desalination system/water maker. Despite this each team member will still lose up to 10% of their body weight during the voyage caused by the millions of oar strokes required.
With space on the specialist ocean rowing boat at a premium, there is no toilet on board. The Remiges V team will be using a bucket when nature calls and each team member is expected to use over 800 sheets of toilet paper on route.
No wonder more people have climbed Mount Everest than rowed across an ocean before!
